The peas, strawberries, raspberries and currants have been disappearing into hungry mouths for a few weeks already, but this weekend we dug up our first potatoes. It might seem like a small thing, but for a garden that only recently got started, it feels like a real milestone. Not bad for a patch of ground that was bare not so long ago!

What makes it even more special is that this is exactly what the Community Garden was created for: bringing people together to grow things, learn new skills and share the rewards. Seeing children picking fruit, residents checking on their plants and volunteers harvesting the first vegetables makes all the hard work worthwhile.

Despite the hot, dry weather, the garden continues to thrive thanks to the dedication of volunteers who have been helping with watering and maintenance. As the growing season continues, we're also looking ahead to the next phase of the project and exploring new ideas for how the garden can benefit even more people in the community.

For now though, we'll take a moment to celebrate those potatoes.
